INTRODUCTION

Welcome to our guide to Plants vs Zombies 2. Please use the menu on the right to navigate.

The aim here is to give a general overview of each world and provide specific help and recommendations for each of the more difficult levels in each world.

We will also be detailing how each plant works and our favourite line-ups of plants plus details on how to get a small amount of gems for free in the game.

ANCIENT EGYPT

This is the first set of levels, there are 25 to battle your way through here. The difficulty level is not very hard, the game rates it as 2 out of 5 levels.

But if you have only just started playing the game you may not have too many plants to choose from so that will hinder your ability to easily complete these initial levels.

Here is the list of plants that you will unlock in this world and a short description of what we think of each one.

Cabbage-pult - Level 2
Pretty useful as you first start in the game, but in the grand scheme of things it's really not that powerful! So use it one these initial levels as it provides a great long range attack but you'll soon be unlocking bigger and badder plants.

Bloomerang - Level 4
Handy but relatively expensive. Useful against groups of marauding zombies as it will damage three zombies in the same lane each time the a boomerang is thrown.

Iceberg Lettuce - Level 6
This one costs zero sun to use and it's really useful when you need a bit more time as it will freeze one zombie on the spot as soon as he treads on it. Works on one zombie only, then you'll have to replant once it has recharged.

Grave Buster - Level 9
Only really useful in this world - But it is really useful! As it smashes a grave that may be blocking your long distance plants from hitting zombies which are further back. An essential plant for many of the levels in this world.

Bonk Choy - Level 14
This is one of my all-time favourite and most used plants. I probably pick this plant in virtually every level. Boring I know - but it is just soooooo good - especially behind a blocking nut.

Repeater - Level 20
Just like the original pea shooter that we know and love, just this one fires two peas at a time - so double the strength overall - but at double the price.

Twin Sunflower - Level 25
When you are a bit tight on squares, this plant is a really useful one do have. Proportionally it costs a bit more than the single sunflower but at least you would utilise less squares overall, leaving more spaces free for attacking plants.

PIRATE SEAS

This is the second world in the game, there are 25 levels and most are pretty simple to complete.

You get to unlock a ton of useful new plants as you play through this world, here is the list:

Kernel-Put - Level 1
Pretty low powered long distance plant that flings corn kernels and butter at zombies

Snapdragon - Level 3
Fairly strong fire breathing plant that will damage three tiles in each of the two columns in front of this plant. Very handy especially in the earlier levels.

Spikeweed - Level 6
Destroys one rolling zombie and damages any zombies that trample on them. Not too useful, but handy if you have some spare sun to use. Especially useful in front of a wall-nut or similar.

Spring Bean - Level 9
Bounces back zombies that get too close or bounces them into water if it is nearby. Most useful on water based levels and once the zombies are in the water they ain't getting back out!

Coconut Cannon - Level 11
Pretty strong canon that will fire a coconut down a single lane. Quite pricey to use at 400 sun, I'm not a fan of this plant due to its quite slow recharge rate and expensive cost.

Threepeater - Level 14
Very useful peashooter which hits zombies in that are in the lane where the plant is as well as the one above and below. Not too powerful, but fires at a good rate and in three lanes.

Spikerock - Level 18
Like the spikeweek, just a lot stronger - and more expensive! Quite handy in later levels where you need to maximise placements.

Cherry Bomb - Level 25
Really strong bomb which blows up most zombies in an area close to where it is detonated. It will detonate as soon as it is planted.

WILD WEST

The Wild West is another crazy world, this time you are introduced to sliding carts which are really handy to cover multiple lanes with a single powerful attacking plant.

Look out also for the guy playing the piano which allows the zombies to change lanes - nightmare.

Here is a rundown of the plants unlocked in this world.

Split Pea - Level 2
A peashooter which is able to shoot a pea both forwards and backwards, especially useful when a zombie has flown past you and landed or when a zombie has changed lanes. In the wild west, this is a particularly useful plant.

Chili Bean - Level 5
Plant this bad boy and the next zombie which lands on it and eats it will fart sooo bad he'll die. Handy little plant when you are a little stuck. Hit it with a leaf and it will multiply.

Pea Pod - Level 7
This is for me the best pea type plant as you can plant multiple pea pods on the same square - up to five. So five shots will be fired per recharge. Or course this costs quite bit, but really useful in the longer levels where you need to build up some strength.

Lightning Reed - Level 10
This sharp shooter hits zombies in it's own lane and the lanes one above and one below. Really useful for some of the wild west levels when placed in a cart. Not so strong but covers a large area well.

Melon-pult - Level 13
Expensive but large damage plant especially when you power it up with a leaf. Really useful, especially if you can get a whole column of these. The leaf effect is really good too, hitting multiple enemies in multiple lanes.

Tall-nut - Level 19
Just like the wall-nut but a little bit taller so it will block low-flying zombies. They are quite a bit more expensive than the standard wall-nut so take a sneaky look at the enemy before you start the round to decide whether you want to get the tall nut or not.

Winter Melon - Level 25
A bit like the melon-pult but a bit better as any zombies that are left over after being hit get slowed down too. But quite a bit more expensive than the melon-pult.

FAR FUTURE

The Far Future introduces 'power tiles' these are tiles that are effectively joined and when you place a leaf on one of the plants sitting on a power tile, all the plants that are the the same type of power tile will get the boost effect!

Watch out for the jetback zombies - you may need the tall-nut!

Here is a list of the plants that you will unlock in this world.

Laser Bean - Level 2
Cool plant which fires a medium strength laser down it's lane hitting all zombies in it's path.

Blover - Level 4
If you need a little more time, this handy plant will blow away all zombies in the air. I don't use this one much to be honest.

Citron - Level 7
I do like this plant - It's really strong, a bit like the laser bean but more heavy duty. This fruity plant does not mess around. Will stop most zombies in it's path with one shot, but the recharge time can be a little high, so make sure it is well protected.

E.M. Peach - Level 10
This plant explodes and disables all machines in an area. Very useful especially in this world where a lot of the zombies are well equipped.

Infi-nut - Level 14
This nut will regain lost strength over time, but it's overall strength is less than a standard wall-nut.

Magnifying Grass - Level 18
This plant can be strong it you are happy to spend sun on making it stronger. Tap it to utilise some of your sun for an attack.

Tile Turnip - Level 25
You can use this plant to turn an ordinary tile into a power tile.

DARK AGES

The Dark Ages is the next world in the game. You'll find the previously unlocked grave buster useful again in these levels. Straight away you'll be introduced to the useful sun-shroom.

Here is a complete rundown of all the new plants introduced in this world.

Sun-shroom - Level 2
This mighty plant starts small and costs little but over time it grows bigger and will generate more sun according to it's size. I love this plant and always choose it as it is so cheap to plant a lot, and it's not very long til they are deliver a whole heap of sun.

Fume-shroom - Level 5
This plant is a pretty decent alternative to some long range plants, it shoots out damaging fumes which hits multiple zombies that are closeby in the same lane.

Sun bean - Level 7
This is a sun generating bean that also does damage to zombies. Pretty useful and interesting.

Magnet-shroom - Level 16
This plant will strip zombies off their metal apparel such as helmets thus lowering their defense.

BIG WAVE BEACH

Big Wave Beach contains 32 levels, it is one of the hardest worlds to complete. It is made especially hard by the tide which comes in and out drowning your plants. The lilypad which is unlocked on the first level in this world will be an essential plant to select for each level of this world, as well as the tangle kelp which is unlocked at level 7.

Here is a rundown of all the plants unlocked in this world and a little bit about them:

Lily Pad - Level 1
Really useful in this world as it will let you plant non-aquatic plants on top of them.

Tangle Kelp - Level 7
Use this one like you would a bomb or chilli plant on dry land. The first zombie that comes across it will be pulled into the water ... never to be seen again...

Bowling Bulb - Level 12
Pretty strong and useful long range plant that can hit zombies in multiple lanes and bounce off zombies to make multiple hits. Probably one of the strongest plants to be unlocked up to this point.

Guacodile - Level 20
Fires low strength seeds at zombies in the same lane, when it is hit though they will zoom forwards and attack all zombies in the same lane. Unfortunately at this point the plant will be gone, and you'll have to plant a new one.

Banana Launcher - Level 28
A true candidate for the best plant in the whole game. This is expensive at 500 sun but it gives you the ability to target any enemy in any lane. The leaf effect is really good too firing multiple random bananas.

FROSTBITE CAVES

In this world the thing is all about being frozen and getting unfrozen. There are a lot of new enemies to deal with and a few new plants get introduced to help thaw out any plants that need it.

Here is what you will unlock as you play through this world:

Hot Potato - Level 1
Super useful in this world, just place it on top of a plant or enemy that is frozen to unfreeze it and the plant or zombie will be active again.

Pepper-pult - Level 7
Another firey plant. Place this close to other plants and it will help keep the frost at bay for them. It is a decent long range weapon that could be a stable in this world.

Chard Guard - Level 12
Place this plant in your front line to sling zombies backwards giving more time for your long range plants to destroy them.

Stunion - Level 20
Useful and cheap plant which fires a cloud of gas at nearby zombies in the same lane stunning them.

Rotobaga - Level 27
A reallt good, but often underused plant, this handy plant shoots zombies in four diagonal directions.

LOST CITY

The lost city is another not-so-difficult world (apart from a few levels). The biggest change here though are the gold leaf tiles which produce extra sun. Somewhere in this world you'll get to unlock as a plant option too.

Here is a list of the unlocked plants in this world:

Red Stinger - Level 1
A long range plant which is stronger when planted close to home.

A.K.E.E. - Level 7
This plant throws small missiles up into the air that bounce from from zombie to zombie.

Endurian - Level 11
Like a wall-but but actually does damage to zombies that walk into it.

Stallia - Level 20
Slows down close-by zombies with a puff of perfume. Free to use but only lasts one hit.

Gold Leaf - Level 27
Turn ordinary tiles into gold tiles which help in sun production. Plants can be placed on the gold tiles.

NEON MIXTAPE TOUR

32 funky levels await you in this world with a whole host of new zombies and new plants to unlock.

Phat Beet - Level 1
Really good at damaging zombies in the same lane and adjacent lanes as they walk past. Not too powerful

Celery Stalker - Level 6
Once the zombie has walked past this plant pops up and bashes the zombie from behind - interesting, but not so powerful.

Thyme Warp - Level 10
Send zombies back to where they started with this plant. This effects all the zombies on the screen as soon as you plant it. It's good for one use then you have to plant it again for the same effect.

I've not unlocked the rest yet so can't really comment!!! Level 5 is a toughie!!!

Let's cover some of the levels. If there are any that we have missed that you would like some help and advice with, just leave a comment below and we'll try to help.

Level 5 - Protect the Endangered Plants
This is the first tough level in this world especially as the plants you need to protect are so far to the right of the screen.

Basically to get through this level, we used the double sunflower, wall-nut bonk choi and fire breathing snapdragon. You'll probably want to use your leaf powers on the snap dragon. Make sure you place a wall but in front of the phat beets that you need to protect and a snapdragon behind them and that should also help protect the wall nuts that you need to protect.

Level 6 - Use the Given Plants
Super Easy, just place the Phat Beets in the middle and make a column of Celery Stalkers.

Level 7
You are given the Celery Stalker and Magnet. The other slots we selected wall-nut, bonk choy, sunflower, bowling balls and snap dragon.

This is quite a tough level to complete. Initially plant your suinflowers to the left, then towards the right start planting the celery stalkers. When the first wave of punks come set up a bowling ball to the left of the screen and it should knock out the first two punks. Whenever you get a chance add more celery stalkers (towards the right of the screen).

The leaves are pretty handy to use on the sunflowers as you'll need plenty of sun for this level.

Level 8
We picked double sunflower, melon-pult (luckily we had with a boost), snap dragon, cherry bomb and celery stalker. We decided to drop the wall-nut and bonk choy combo for this round as it wasn't working for us doe to the punk rockers!

Level 9 - Produce at least 2000 sun and survive zombie attack with given plants
Not as difficult as it appears to be when it first starts as each row of sunflowers are kicked back by the punk rockers- set up a pea shooter or similar behind the sunflowers and they will all just get kicked back to the start. You can also use the phat-beets in front of the sunflowers once they have been kicked back a bit.

Try to save as many sunflowers as you can you'll probably need at least six to generate enough sun.

Level 10
You aget a conveyor belt of plants and you choose where to plant them as the level progresses. Really easy level. Keep the phat-beets in the middle for maximum range and intersperse with celery stalks. You get a heap of thyme-warps too, you may need a couple.
